Description
Hungary is a landlocked, central European country with seven bordering countries: Slovakia to the north, Ukraine and Romania to the east, Serbia and Croatia to the south, Slovenia to the southwest and Austria to the west.
Short History
9 AD The Romans create the province of Pannonia in western Hungary
Early 2nd Century The Romans conquer eastern Hungary. They call it Dacia.
271 The Romans abandon Dacia
End of 4th Century Romans withdraw from western Hungary
896 The Magyars enter Hungary
955 The Magyars are crushed by the Germans at the battle of Augsburg
1090-1038 King Stephen rules Hungary
1222 King Andreas II issues the Golden Bull
1241 The Mongols invade Hungary
1458-1490 King Matthias rules Hungary
1514 Hungarian peasants rebel
1526 The Turks crush the Hungarians at the battle of Mohacs
1699 The Austrians take Hungary from the Turks
